What we believe.
Specto Art Space is located at 101 South Main Street, Bridgewater, VA. Opened February 2018, Specto strives to offer contemporary art spaces which serve and uplift artists through a streamlined exhibition opportunities and artist support. Bridgewater is a small town in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. Offering the charm of a small idyllic town, home to Bridgewater College, while being minutes from Harrisonburg, VA: home to two other major universities, James Madison University and Eastern Mennonite University. Harrisonburg is home to Virginia's first Arts and Cultural District and the only Culinary District. It boasts over 1 million visitors every year, and is home to many artists and art opportunities. Specto is excited to bring even more art opportunity to our local community which is already so giving to artists.
Specto Art Space was created to focus on giving opportunity to any and all artists working within contemporary photography, digital art, and graphic design. Monthly international juried shows are open to artists of any background, from hobbyist to professional artist and everyone in between. Specto believes in the exhibition and critical evaluation of works within these media, as well as the support artists creating these works deserve.
Each month Specto exhibits two shows simultaneously: an international juried show, and a featured artist solo show. Featured artists calls are open to all artists, internationally, regardless of experience/education level. Artists chosen for this opportunity will receive their own solo show, as well as the ability to choose the theme of the accompanying juried show, and the opportunity to curate the pieces included in that show. This is a unique opportunity to allow artists to have more experience in all aspects of art exhibition. International juried shows will be themed, monthly exhibitions open to all.
Specto believes in a no hassle exhibition experience. We print and frame all works on display, free of charge to the artists. There are no costs beyond the initial application fee, which means no worrying about shipping, framing, and printing costs. Specto catalogues and archives all works exhibited, allowing for a resource of contemporary artists to be created, which will continue to promote artists to local curators, galleries, collectors, and the general public.
